The City of Maurice welcomes you to our community.  The following is a brief listing of “need to know” information pertaining to the city.  If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact the City Office.

Emergencies - 911

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department provides law enforcement in the City of Maurice.  Emergency services are provided by the Maurice 1st Responders and the Maurice Fire Department.

Parks

The City of Maurice maintains a city park downtown with an open shelter house, as well as the ballpark on the north side of town.

Community Center

The Community Center is available to the public to rent for $60.00.  The Community Center has kitchen facilities that include stove, refrigerator, and microwave.  The Community Center can be reserved by contacting the City Clerk.

Schools

Maurice is in the MOC-Floyd Valley Public School District.  Private Christian schools located in nearby cities of Ireton, Orange City & Sioux Center provide education to Maurice students.

Churches

The First Reformed Church is located in Maurice.  St. John’s Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) is located 4 miles west of Maurice (4755 Fir Ave.)

City Provided Services

The City of Maurice provides service for water, sewer and garbage.  Here are a few things you might want to know about your utility service:

Bills for city provided utilities are mailed monthly and are payable by the 15th of the month.  Bills not paid by the due date will be considered delinquent, a penalty added and disconnection proceeding are started.  Utility payments can be made at the City Office, 315 Pine St. (deposit box available).  A deposit of $200 for all new utility service requests will be required before service is connected.

APPLICATION FOR UTILITY SERVICE

Garbage pickup is done curbside on Thursday of each week.  The City of Maurice will provide you with the approved garbage container.  Additional garbage bag tags are available for $1 at the City Office.  Garbage pick-up is contracted through Orange City Sanitation.

Tree branches and lawn clippings can be brought to the appropriate pile at the city dump site located on the southwest corner of Maurice.

Spring clean-up for items not picked up during regular garbage pick-up

A dumpster for recycling cardboard, tin cans, aluminum cans and plastics is located southwest of the city office/maintenance building.

Miscellaneous Information

Post office in the City of Maurice hours:
Lobby open—Monday-Saturday: 24 hours a day
Service window open—Monday-Friday: 10:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m.
Saturday: 10:30—11:30 a.m.

For your convenience these services are available at the City Office during regular hours: notary service, fax machine and copy machine.

Construction permits are required before any new construction or alterations or additions take place.  The same guidelines hold true for any water or sewer construction.  Applications are available under the Government tab of this website, from the City Clerk’s office or from the Planning & Zoning Administrator, Lana Bruxvoort phone—567-4400).

Permits are required for ATV’s/Golf carts on city streets.  Applications are available under the Government tab of this website or at the City Clerk’s office.

The Maurice Community Center is the polling place for voters who reside in Maurice and Sherman Township for Federal, municipal and school elections held in the City of Maurice.

REMINDER: You must report a change of address to the Iowa Department of Transportation within 30 days of moving.  If you are moving into Iowa from another state, get a list of the proper identification and a list of documents you can bring in for proof of residency from the Sioux County Treasurer’s office (712.737-2222)
